Quentin and Fal - Cat Rescuers
May. 29th, 2004 01:38 amSo, I was walking home from
falconeio's place, round about midnight tonight. I'm only about half way down the block, and suddenly I here this MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW coming from this tree above me. I look up, and sure enough, there's this cat up there. Obviously trying to get down, obviously can't, and obviously very unhappy. I was about to walk on by, telling myself it's not my problem, it'll get down eventually, or else it's owner will find it.
Then of course, I have all these images of it falling, or starving or something. I go back to get a better look at her, and sure enough, she's got a collar on.
*sigh*
And I just can't have that.
So, I called Fal back up, we got out his step ladder, and after a bit of coaxing, got her down. She's very pretty. White fur, with grey patches, sleek and healthy looking. She was a bit distressed, but she seemed to understand that we were trying to help her. She put up no struggle, and was in fact very contentedly purring as we carried her back to Fal's place.
I tried calling a number of places, without success, trying to figure out what to do with her. Everything was closed, of course. She spent this time prowling around, nervously checking out the apartment. But again, she was still friendly to us and let us pick her up and pet her.
I finally got through to some sort of 24-hour ASPCA number. The collar she had on was this cheap plastic thing, with some kind of alphanumeric code on it, and saying "hold until 5/8/04". So, we figured she may have escaped from a vet or something. Being that it was midnight, the ASPCA didn't really have any helpful suggestions that we could do right at that moment, as I expected. So, we were kind of left with the choice of just letting her go, assuming she was from the area, and having her take her chances. But, given what was on the collar, if she really had escaped from somewhere, I figured the chances of her finding her owners again was pretty much nil.
So, Fal's keeping her at his place for the night, and then tomorrow we're going to take her to a local vet. If we're lucky, she may have an ID chip, and can be identified. I still have my parents' camera, so we may even take a picture, and put up a couple of flyers around.
I really hope we can find the owner, cause now, having stepped my foot into this, the last thing I want is for her to end up in a pound and get put to sleep. I'm gonna try not to think that far ahead just yet. Heh, maybe Fritz will take her in :-P
Anyway, I hope I did the right thing. I'd like to think I helped out a fellow being. Heh... I seem to be doing that a lot lately ;-P
My good deed for the day ^.^
